Second solo exhibit.
Audiello Fine Art, Inc. is pleased to present its second solo exhibit of Sally Ross. The exhibition will open Friday, February 4, 2000 and run through March 11, 2000
Born 1965 in Morristown, New Jersey, the artist now lives and works in New York City where when she is not painting she is raising her new son of 15 months.
The plants are potted like bonsai trees in tiny ceramic bases and grow sideways instead of up but the flowers do not seem to spring from the stem in any organic fashion, they are more like surreal mechanical plugs in holes. Dropped against the lonely sky they are like pills popping from each tree promising relief. The red and white polka-dotted balls suspended from the branches remind us of the edible psychedelic toadstool in Alice and Wonderland or our childhood toys of colorful bouncing balls.
So although the paintings are organic in premise, everything feels synthetic, which is a dichotomy that has its real foundation in American suburbia. Sally Ross uses all of this vocabulary to call upon the viewer to take a closer look at the psyche of the American landscape.
Opening: Friday, February 4, 6-8 pm
