The Art Pavilion in Zagreb, one of the most beautiful exhibition venues in Croatia, hosting exhibitions continuously during 115 years, will host an exhibition of one of the biggest names in sculpture - Auguste Rodin (1840-1917) from May 6, 2015 – September 20, 2015.
The exhibition named "Rodin in Meštrović’s Zagreb" will present the famous sculptor with 57 sculptures (bronze, plaster, marble), 20 drawings and 20 photographs (we will present historical photos including those of art photographer Euguene Druet who also recorded Meštrović’s works during his stay in Paris).
Among the exposed artworks you will find those which Rodin is globally known for – for instance his masterpiece "The Thinker", "The Kiss", "The Gates of Hell", "The Bronze Age", "The Burghers of Calais", "Adam", "Eve"... Rodin’s exhibition is designed specifically for the Art Pavilion in Zagreb; its retrospective concept will include all of the most important sculptor’s artworks and emphasize the fruitful and intensive cooperation between Meštrović and Rodin, as well as their friendship and mutual respect.
The Auguste Rodin’s exhibition is one of the cultural events within the Festival of French culture in Croatia in 2015, named "Rendez-vous". During the Festival, which will run from May to the end of September 2015, the total of 150 events will be held in the field of culture, art, sport, gastronomy... (www-rendez-vous.hr).
With this presentation, France returns the visit, after a successful initial presentation of Croatian culture and art in the Republic of France in 2012/2013 held under the name "Croatie, la voici". During the Festival of Croatian culture in France the exhibition of sculpture by Ivan Meštrović took place in Rodin Museum, Paris, and now France will present herself in Croatia with an exhibition of Rodin in a return visit.
Well as in Zagreb, Rodin's works will be exhibited in Split, where a smaller by range but also significant exhibition named "Rodin's Meditation in Split" will open on 8 May 2015 at the Meštrović Gallery; it will display the sculpture named "Meditation – The Inner Voice".
The authors of the exhibition project at the Art Pavilion in Zagreb are Catherine Chevillot, director of the Museum Rodin in Paris and Andro Krstulović Opara, an art historian. Curators are Véronique Mattiussi (Rodin Museum) and Barbara Vujanović (Meštrović Atelier). The exhibition has been set up by Andro Krstulović Opara and director of the Art Pavilion Jasminka Poklečki Stošić.
