Probably most artists would say they want their work to 'flow'. For Margaret Gallegos the idea of flow has multiple interpretations. In her new body of work, collectively titled 'Flow', Gallegos references the various meanings of the word. She looks at the literal flow of the paint itself, but also the flow of thought as it is impacted by the creation process, as well as the flow of life and how it influences an artist's progress. This has resulted in a dynamic and expressive series of paintings that are spontaneously direct in execution and yet are thoughtful and intimate.

Gallegos states, 'I began to seek less control in my work and to get very interested in the idea of flow. The flow of low-viscosity paint; the flow of action and reaction between the rapid application of paint and the experience of sequential harmonies or dissonances; the feeling of flow as one relinquishes intent and abandons oneself to what feels like an application of paint from an active unconscious. Such flow and speed, just on the edge of control, are very stimulating and exciting to me.'
Margaret Gallegos is a native of Santa Monica and a graduate of UCLA. She has been exhibiting her work locally and nationally since 1983.
