5e biennale des images du monde. For the 5th edition, Photoquai continues its fundamental mission: encouraging a dialogue and an exchange of perspectives on the world, and revealing the Elsewhere seen from Elsewhere.
curated by: Frank Kalero
Since it began in 2007, the Photoquai photography biennial has drawn attention to non-European photography, presenting artists whose works are unknown in France and rarely seen in Europe and the United States to a wide audience. These photographers come from the large geographical zones represented in the collections at the Musée du Quai Branly: Latin America, Oceania, Asia and South-East Asia, India, Africa, ex-USSR and the Middle East.
For the 5th edition, Photoquai continues its fundamental mission: encouraging a dialogue and an exchange of perspectives on the world, and revealing the Elsewhere seen from Elsewhere.
The selection of 40 photographers from around the world reveals the variety of ways in which the non- European world is perceived today, from within, by the artists who live there, far removed from the clichés often expressed by a certain type of tourist photography. The first 4 editions have introduced 202 photographers from around thirty different countries on each occasion.
