comunicato stampa

In the American show, 267 leading galleries from North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia and Africa show significant work from the masters of Modern and contemporary art, as well the new generation of emerging stars. Paintings, sculptures, installations, photographs, films, and editioned works of the highest quality are on display in the main exhibition hall. Ambitious large‐scale artworks, films and performances become part of the city's outdoor landscape at nearby Collins Park and SoundScape Park.

SECTORS
Art Basel's exhibition sectors are carefully defined to provide visitors the opportunity to see many different types of important works, from historical masterpieces to the work of the newest generation of artists.

The show
At the nexus of North America and Latin America, our Miami Beach show presents artworks from across the globe. Over 250 of the world's leading galleries participate, drawing over 70,000 visitors each year.
With miles of sandy beaches dotted with classic Art Deco architecture, world-class art museums, and a glittering nightlife, Miami Beach ranks among America's most iconic cities. During Art Basel, it embraces the artworld with special exhibitions at museums and galleries across the city, transforming the week into a dense and dynamic cultural event.

Leading galleries from North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia and Africa show work from the masters of Modern and contemporary art, as well as pieces by a new generation of emerging stars. Paintings, sculptures, installations, photographs, films, and editioned works of the highest quality are on display in the main exhibition hall. Ambitious large‐scale artworks, film and performance become part of the landscape at nearby beaches, Collins Park and SoundScape Park.

Galleries
Around 200 of the world's leading international Modern and contemporary art galleries display artworks by over 4,000 artists, including paintings, sculptures, installations, photography, film, video, and digital art. Visitors can find works ranging from editioned pieces by young artists to museum-caliber masterpieces.

Nova
Designed for galleries to present one, two or three artists showing works created within the last three years, the Nova sector features strong juxtapositions and never-before-seen pieces fresh from the artist's studio.

Positions
This sector allows curators, critics, and collectors to discover ambitious new talents from across the globe, by providing a platform for a single artist to present one major project.

Edition
Leading publishers of editioned works, prints, and multiples exhibit the results of their collaboration with renowned artists, providing visitors the opportunity to see significant, and rare publications.

Kabinett
In a separately delineated space within their booths, Galleries present a curated exhibition by an artist of their choice. The diverse curatorial concepts for Kabinett include thematic group exhibitions, art-historical showcases and solo shows for rising stars.

Survey
Survey presents precise art historical projects. These may include solo presentations by an individual artist, juxtapositions and thematic exhibits from artists representing a range of cultures, generations and artistic approaches.

Public
As part of Art Basel's show in Miami Beach, over 20 large-scale sculptures and installations by leading and emerging international artists will be installed in Collins Park. Public is again curated by Nicholas Baume, Director and Chief Curator of Public Art Fund, and select works from the exhibition will remain on view through February 2016. This is the fifth year Art Basel and the Bass Museum of Art have collaborated to produce Public. Public will open on Wednesday, December 2 running until Sunday, December 6.

Film
Organized in association with David Gryn, Director of Daata Editions and London's Artprojx, the Film sector presents a dynamic program of films. Outdoor screenings take place at SoundScape Park, where works are shown on the 7,000-square-foot projection wall of the Frank Gehry-designed New World Center; and inside the Miami Beach Convention Center. In addition, New York-based film curator Marian Masone selects a feature-length film for a special screening at the Colony Theatre

Magazines
Art publications from around the world display their magazines in single-magazine stands, or the collective booth. Editors and publishers often attend the show and many magazines contribute presentations to Salon, our afternoon series of lectures and discussions by prominent members of the artworld.

Talks
Art Basel's stimulating program of Conversations and Salon talks allow audiences to deepen their knowledge of artistic practice, the international artworld, and the art market.
The daily Conversations series offers the audience access to the thinking of important artworld players –artists, curators, critics and collectors –who offer their unique perspectives on producing, collecting and exhibiting art.
Salon is an open platform for dozens of short, often informal presentations, such as artist talks, panels, lectures and performances with a range of speakers representing many different aspects of the artworld.
Conversations & Salon is programmed by Mari Spirito.

EVENTS
The week of the Art Basel show teems with parallel exhibitions and cultural events, creating an exciting environment that deepens and strengthens the relationship between gallerists, artists, curators and collectors.
