Physically Digital, Digitally Physical. New media artists marcus neustetter and nathaniel stern ironically explore textured, off-screen re-presentations of data, images and human communication. The GetAway Experiment, at the ArtSpace outside of Johannesburg, will exhibit never before seen artworks from stern's serial faces and neustetter's digital frottage. As they 'GetAway' from the machine, and examine alternative ways of translating data, their experiments lead them through various computer-based processes.
Physically Digital, Digitally Physical
New media artists marcus neustetter and nathaniel stern ironically explore textured, off-screen re-presentations of data, images and human communication. The GetAway Experiment, at the ArtSpace outside of Johannesburg, will exhibit never before seen artworks from stern's serial faces and neustetter's digital frottage. As they 'GetAway' from the machine, and examine alternative ways of translating data, their experiments lead them through various computer-based processes. Adventures that began in zeros and ones have since evolved into large prints and layered collages. In addition, stern and neustetter's site-specific collaborations use the more traditional methods of tracing, rubbing and collaging, in order to capture technological remnants in an invitational exploration of denotation, connotation and myth.
