Parade

Mona Bismarck Foundation, Paris

An original exhibition of wearable works of art. As last year, with William Wegman, the exhibition will feature photography by renowned fashion designer and photographer Karl Lagerfeld. Created by SCAD alumnae and artists Martha Enzmann and Karen McVay Butch, Parade pays homage to the 1917 Russian Ballet of the same name whose cubist costumes by Picasso caused such a delightful scandal. The collection of costumes is an interactive exhibition that will be self-propelled, choreographed, highly kinetic and aural. The parade is a celebration, the mood light and lively.

From the Piazza of the Pompidou Center to the edge of the Seine, an exhibition "Parade".

After Women by Women in 2002 and Pour l'Amour des chiens in 2003, the Savannah College of Art and Design presents, at the Mona Bismarck Foundation, an original exhibition of wearable works of art. As last year, with William Wegman, the exhibition will feature photography by renowned fashion designer and photographer Karl Lagerfeld.

Homage to the Russian Ballet
Created by SCAD alumnae and artists Martha Enzmann and Karen McVay Butch, Parade pays homage to the 1917 Russian Ballet of the same name whose cubist costumes by Picasso caused such a delightful scandal. The collection of costumes is an interactive exhibition that will be self-propelled, choreographed, highly kinetic and aural. The parade is a celebration, the mood light and lively. The costumes fun and witty, inspired by the Russian constructivism, American folk art, geometrical designs of Picasso and Diaghilev at the beginning of the century, their abstract and futuristic work, are always enjoyable.

A choreographed procession
The exhibition is conceived as a musical and choreographed procession featuring more than 60 original costumes, brightly colored, and worn by archetypal characters. Giant dragons, flying fish, "cages" of tulles, black circles under tunics reminding lines of charcoal or chalk drawings and other costumes full of explosive colors. All are comprised of alternate materials like tulle, rolls of DuPont Tyvek, paper, original fabrics and wood.

Fashion and Dance
Featuring the Haute Couture procession, the exhibition also pays homage to fashion and show craftsmen. If the weather permits, contemporary dancers will invade the Piazza of Pompidou Center on Wednesday, July 7, at 2 and 4 p.m and will perform to the rhythm of Jeffrey Lyman's bassoon. The exhibition at the Mona Bismarck will also feature Karl Lagerfeld's photographs on fashion and dance including works of Jean-Paul Gaultier, Christian Lacroix, and Odile Gilbert's umbrella of artificial hair fringes. Pure unbridled imagination.
Karen McVay Butch wishes the spectators to react and take part in the"Parade"."I like when they are noisy, interactive and when they have fun. The audience takes part of the show, so there are never two similar shows because there are never the same audience. The exhibition waits for you.
