Opening Reception: Saturday, July 24, 8pm – late
8 pm - Soundcraft: a performance by Damien Olsen (guitar, effects, loops) and Carlos Bernales (keyboards).

Each pure emotion secured through the passing of time becomes a layer of sediment always peeking through the cracks. Four emotional artists converge to scrape the dry flesh of a standard movement revealing the rusty gears of a soft machine.

Robyn Desposito creates an opportunity to manage her own anger, document it and move on in the process of creating her series, Anger Management. The paintings focus on the uncontrollability of rage and the cycle of provocation and reaction that perpetuates itself in women’s outward expression of anger. Juxtaposed with quotes from self-help books circa the 1950’s and 1960’s, she explores today’s frustrations against an era that was so willing to overlook them.

Cris Nyne expresses his frustrated confusion towards people who adopt each other’s reality just to feel normal. Embracing struggle and contradiction within his intentions, he creates a different stimulus through his exploration of material, surface, and his words.

Damien Olsen exercises the charm of decadence in an environment of excess. He accepts that the passing of time affects all things, and has concluded that the artist is a tool for the moment of creation. Damien’s process allows him to express the world as a realm of desire, a place where everything is possible.

Samara Sussman digests the culture and scenery of the places she lives, mixes it with her inner psyche, and expels it onto the canvas. The sculptural works include heavily manipulated natural materials, edible items, discarded objects and cultural symbols. These varied materials become the structure for the textural layering of her work while creating allegories of her daily thoughts. They are fused with artistic mediums to create a largely abstract, aesthetically conscious work. The final result is a catharsis conveying raw emotion and environmental influence.

These four artists are brought together by an internal struggle within the abstract duality of human nature. Each artist feeds off of the changes in their environments, directly influencing the work.
