The Paper Scapes. Following on from the success of his recent exhibition at the Great Eastern Hotel, London, artist Russell Thoburn will be exhibiting 'Paper Scapes' at the Hay Gallery, Colchester. The Paper Scapes
Following on from the success of his recent exhibition at the Great Eastern Hotel, London, artist Russell Thoburn will be exhibiting 'Paper Scapes' at the Hay Gallery, Colchester. These cut-out and pasted improvised compositions or 'scapes' balance chaos with a blend of playfulness, providing the viewer with a feast of visual pleasure. From a distance the works appear to be paintings but closer inspection reveals the layering of papers and glue. "I find the process of working with paper fascinating, it's a very playful medium to work with and hopefully this comes across; a sense of curiosity and intrigue."
Russell Thoburn has exhibited work throughout Europe and America. In 1997 he participated in BANK TV and was awarded the Louis H Kiek travel award. Thoburn has also attended symposia in France (1990) and Poland (1991) exhibiting at the Muzeum Miasti Gdyni in Gdansk. 2004 will see solo shows of his 'scapes' at the Great Eastern Hotel, London and the Hay Gallery Colchester. His works have been sold by Harrod's and Sotheby's and can be found in private collections alongside the work of Appel, Christo and Warhol.
