Nirupa Sing

Artspace Fine Art Gallery, Johannesburg

'Unveiling the Chrysalis: Monkeytime Moonshadows' is about the parallel cyclical journey of choices and synchronicity, life and death, birth and re-birth, subjugation and survival, gestation and retreat, symbolically culminating in the transformation of the chrysalis into the colourful, brave, adventurous butterfly: on a personal microcosmic scale that resonates with the macrocosmic transformations and 'skin-shedding' as we de-shackle and unwrap ourselves and chrysalis-like reframe and embrace the physical and spiritual possibilities, waiting to be born locally and on a broader universal level.

"UNVEILING THE CHRYSALIS: MONKEYTIME MOONSHADOWS"

Nirupa Sing, fine artist from Gauteng, presents her solo exhibition at the Artspace fine art gallery. johannesburg, with the opening taking place on 28th September.

"Unveiling the Chrysalis: Monkeytime Moonshadows" is about the parallel cyclical journey of choices and synchronicity, life and death, birth and re-birth, subjugation and survival, gestation and retreat, symbolically culminating in the transformation of the chrysalis into the colourful, brave, adventurous butterfly: on a personal microcosmic scale that resonates with the macrocosmic transformations and 'skin-shedding' as we de-shackle and unwrap ourselves and chrysalis-like reframe and embrace the physical and spiritual possibilities, waiting to be born locally and on a broader universal level. Engagement on the personal, emotional and socio-historical planes is attained by use of colour, symbol, texture and image.

The artist quotes that "today we have so much disposable flotsam and jetsam from our insatiable quest for more and more technology, that recyling seems to be the way of both art and life, where I come from. These fragments in my physical world are used to explore and relate to the fragmentary world our senses are continually intuitively reframing, thus transforming reality into the symbolic expression of a unique vision and interpretation, from the infinite well of creativity. As a prism transforms white light into the myriad spectrum of the rainbow, so creativity heals and transforms our mundane lives, with a spectrum of possibilities".

In the past year Nirupa Sing's work was chosen to travel in the United States with the Sondela exhibition, commemorating 10 years of democracy; she exhibited on the "Cancelled without Prejudice" exhibition at JAG and was invited by the South African Department of Arts and Culture to represent South Africa at the pARTage International Art Workshop in Mauritius.
