Opening on October 1st and running until October 31st

After showing his work in 1994 in L'Hiver de L'Amour (1994) and in Delta (1997-98) at the MUSEE D'ART MODERNE DE LA VILLE DE PARIS / ARC, Maurizio Cattelan presents for his first one person show in a Parisian institution, a new project titled Now. Opening on October 1st and running until October 31st, as a project of MUSEE D'ART MODERNE DE LA VILLE DE PARIS / ARC, this exhibition will take place in a venue specifically selected by and for the artist.

For more than 10 years Maurizio Cattelan has produced illusory realities and alternative universes in which rules are subverted and unconventional strategies applied. Confronting malaise and rupture in today's society with the tools of dark humor and straight fiction, Cattelan's work traces the borders of new territories of possible freedoms.

Cattelan's Now addresses the issue of unresolved power, as it depicts a historical icon in a moment of loss. Cathartic ceremony, Now is also a requiem for a dream: it freezes the end of democracy, while capturing a splinter of unfinished history.

As always, Cattelan himself refuses to take any fixed moral or ideological position about his own work, dealing instead with reality in all its complexities and contradictions. As all of Cattelan's projects, Now is first and foremost an image which mirrors our hysterias and fears, as it turns into a receptacle of anxieties and a medium of communication.

This project takes also place in the program of "Nuit Blanche" 2004.
