Sea Art Festival
October 9th - October 31st,
around Haeundae beach, Busan, Korea

As one of Busan biennale, Sea Art Featival is the biggest environmental installation art festival in the world. The theme of Sea Art Festival 2004 is "Chasm-Crossing Over". Busan is in the geopolitical location where continental culture and marine culture meet and cross over each other. Not just in the geopolitical sense, culture is supposed to become rich through this process of crossing-over, that is, through cultural exchange.

The 32 participating works which come from 9 different countries will be displayed for a short exhibition period. Therefore, like a fireworks, they will generate short but powerful effects during the exhibition. Thus, the site-specific aspect of each work takes precedence over everything else will determine success.

To accommodate the vitality of the contemporary art, the festival of this year advances its exhibition sites to the right center of the urban Haeundae teeming with people. It will take the form of an expanded art festival with pro-environmental performances and seaside installation artworks. Thus, the viewers who participate in the Sea Art Festival 2004 will be able to enjoy the art works of new concepts not only on the seaside of Haeundae, but also on the city streets and on the walls of buildings.
