This exhibition will feature approximately fifty photographs of contemporary Japanese architecture in the years between 1985 and 1996. Classified into seven categories including 'metropolises (capital and Kansai regions)', 'medium-sized cities', 'towns and villages', 'suburbs', 'reclaimed land', 'countryside', and 'resort areas'. The exhibition will show how architecture responded to the great changes in geography and social conditions in Japan at this time, a decade of great economic gains characterized by excess followed by economic collapse.
1985-1996
This exhibition of Contemporary Japanese Architecture 1985-1996 is jointly
presented by the University Museum and Art Gallery, The University of Hong
Kong, the Consulate-General of Japan and the Japan Foundation; and
co-presented by The Japan Society of Hong Kong and The Hongkong Japanese
Club. It will feature approximately fifty photographs of contemporary
Japanese architecture in the years between 1985 and 1996.

The exhibition opening will take place on Friday, 10 December 2004 at 5.30
p.m. Mr Takanori KITAMURA, Consul-General, Consulate-General of Japan; Dr
CHOW Yei Ching, President, The Japan Society of Hong Kong; Mr Koji AOTA,
Vice-President, The Hongkong Japanese Club; and Professor J. A. SPINKS,
Pro-Vice-Chancellor of The University of Hong Kong, will officiate at the
ceremony.
The Museum opening hours are Monday to Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.;
Sundays 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. The Museum is closed on 24 December, 31 December
(p.m.) and public holidays. Admission is free.
