The Hong Kong Visual Arts Society 31st Annual Exhibition

New Phase 2004 marks the thirty-first annual exhibition of The Hong Kong Visual Arts Society founded in 1974 by some of Hong Kong's most prominent artists in the field of visual arts. Over the years the VAS has remained a stalwart of the Hong Kong's changing artistic environment by encouraging younger artists to join its ranks. It is this that makes the VAS annual exhibition a showcase of the visual arts in Hong Kong. Including the works of established artists who were at the vanguard of Hong Kong Art from the 1960s onwards this exhibition also explores the talents of younger mid-career artists who work in media as diverse as glass and stone.

Through the work of its individual members in public and community art projects, the VAS is influential in increasing appreciation of the arts in Hong Kong. Many of the artists also nurture the creative potential of the artists of the future through teaching activities. This vitality of purpose is translated into work across art forms and in projects both in Hong Kong and internationally.

The artists whose works will be included in the exhibition are Aser But, Gaylord Chan, Cho Hyun-jae, Josephine Chow, Chu Hing-wah, Chu Kai-man, Ha Bik-chuen, Kum Chi-keung, Kwok Mang-ho, Lammie Lam, Lau Chung-hang, Lee Chin-fai, Lui Chun-kwong, Eddie Lui, Mok Yat-san, Tong King-sum and Wu Wing-yee. On view will be a wide variety of works including painting, sculpture and mixed media. The continuing success of the VAS represents the triumph of the artistic impulse in an increasingly materialistic world.

The exhibition opening will take place on Friday 17th December at 6:00 p.m. Members of the press are warmly invited to attend.

The opening hours of the Museum are 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Sundays. The Museum is closed on 24th and 31st December (p.m.) and public holidays. Admission is free. All are welcome.
