Deconstructing Reality
Nicola Morea paints the environment in the abstract. His flat graceful paintings reflect an established eye for form and color. For 30 years Nicola Morea has painted expressionistic works that blend a unique sense of place with a sublime grasp of color. His works appear as aerial views of land formations, or glimpses of nature's vast dimensions, but convey a strong sense of geometric abstraction as well. Painting with enamel on canvas, Morea builds of controlled fields of color with incredibly energetic movements. Because he doesn't use brushes, Morea's canvases exhibit a forceful physicality that comes from painting with a hard object. He possesses a keen vision for abstraction within nature and a cool control in rendering it. The work exudes passion for form, art, and Morea's surroundings. He is an optimist and realist writing visual poetry about the world. A native of Italy, Morea's work reaches across a generation of art making and speaks a timeless language.
