Alison Fox

Atm Gallery, New York

Paintings and works on paper. Working primarily in acrylic, Alison occasionally collages in fabrics and studio debris to create repetitious pauses in her complicated compositions. The surface is thick with matter, and the paintings seem to warp and bend to create a sculptural dimension to the image.

comunicato stampa

ATM Gallery is pleased to present paintings and works on paper by artist Alison Fox, in her first solo exhibition.

Alison Fox's brightly colored abstractions use loose systems of marks. Their non-representational worlds both close in on themselves and expand, simultaneously. Her palate of synthetic and organic pigments creates a dizzying display of depths. Working primarily in acrylic, Alison occasionally collages in fabrics and studio debris to create repetitious pauses in her complicated compositions. The surface is thick with matter, and the paintings seem to warp and bend to create a sculptural dimension to the image. The paintings and works on paper in the exhibition range from 7" x 9" up to 5 x 7 feet.

Alison Fox was born and raised on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. A serious flea market junky and the daughter of an obsessive collector of collections, Alison fills every millimeter of works with information. The influence of her 3 to 6 year old students is clear in the love of process that her work expresses. Alison is an MFA candidate at Hunter College in New York City, where her studio is filled with old craft books and pictures of carpet-covered 70's homes. Her works have previously been exhibited at the New Art Dealers Alliance Fair (NADA) and Kravets/Wheby Gallery.

Opening reception Friday, February 18, 6-9pm
