As part of ANYTIME SOON, project promoted by Viafarini for the Fuorisalone of the Milan Design Week focusing on designers and artists who work in close relationship to visual art, Viafarini presents a selection of Dutch designers: Eric Klarenbeek, Afke Golsteijn, Anthony Kleinepier, TTTVO, Buro Vormkrijgers and Bob Copray.

Despite the international relevance of the Milanese design fair with contemporary design, the event did not yet offer a project focusing on the open dialogue between design and the visual contemporary arts. This project intends to close the gap.

Viafarini, invited a group of international designers and artists who work close to visual art and whose researches investigate the idea of process and installation to develop a project in this sense.

The invited designers and artists will present their works on several locations in the city from 13 t/m 17 april 2005 during Fuorisalone. The countries involved [a.o. Spain Switzerland Australia and The Netherlands ] will present on different locations and will be giving their interpretations on this project titled "Anytime Soon".

After careful selection a group of Dutch designers and artists was composed and invited by curator Luca Trevisani [ Viafarini ] to participate in the project and exhibit in gallery Viafarini itself. The gallery which is situated in the centre of Milan, has a floorplan of 200 m2, in which the invited Dutch designers and artists will be focusing on the open dialogue between design and the visual contemporary arts.

The Dutch delegation consists of Buro Vormkrijgers, TTTVO, Afke Golsteijn, Eric Klarenbeek, Anthony Kleinepier en Bob Copray.

Buro Vormkrijgers [ Sander Mulder & Dave Keune ]
Buro Vormkrijgers profiles itself as an designers with duo high standards, both in concept and realization. By the ever present urge to explore unknown territory, Buro Vormkrijgers can exploit and inspire her creativity to the max. This approach enables amongst others for traditional qualities to prosper with new techniques and innovations in their designs. The coherency in their work is formed by the conviction that concept and realization should always exists in symbiosis.

Bob Copray (1968)
Designer and concept developer of interiors. In his works he keeps searching for unorthodox construction methods and finishes. With this approach there always follows a renewed definition of “functionality”. The designer is convinced that the, from mass production derived, so called standards that can be found in commercial stores nowadays, should not be interpreted by the consumer as the absolute or only truth.

Search for reality, In which function and aesthetics are equals. Objects where the application generates new values.

Anthony Kleinepier & TTTVO
Although rooted in completely different basic assumptions, there is a mutual organic enhancement between the work of the Dutch designers Anthony Kleinepier and TTTVo. Since the end of 2002, they present their products together. Not in a nice and tidy formation in one space, but stage-managed as one mixed arrangement. These settings, as they call them, blend into a new work in its own right, a world that challenges the spectator to observe the products not just as isolated objects but as parts of a wider context. Comfortable but elusive at the same time, that’s the tension area they’re looking for. Way past the soothing Disney-effects and the commercialism of feel-good theatre. The designers question our living environment and its makeability. "Looking forward to share their world and you are invited!"

As part of the ANYTIME SOON design presentations curated by Association Viafarini, Milan ANYTIME SOON. AUSTRALIA launches new art and design products and concepts by Mathew Butler, Marc Pascal and Simone LeAmon. Placing value in the artistic message the OZ installations bring together the cultural discourses of the visual arts and commerce toward the development of original product design. Lighting, furniture, art, storytelling and performance combine to reveal the ‘other’ side of Australian design culture. Anytime Soon. Australia is proudly supported by Omvivo.

Mathew Butler. ‘Zaishu’ project: Urban Anthropology A ‘Zaishu’ is a flat packed portable seat/table/box that is made from non-precious plywood featuring original artwork. Zaishu uses design as a catalyst to bring the people of different cultures and communities together to speak of the abiding themes of design and social engagement. The painting of the artwork and assembly of the ‘Zaishu’ is performed by community groups at interactive events and not in a factory. The core spirit of Zaishu is participation, creativity, sustainability and evolution.

Marc Pascal. I can’t see my face!
Welcome to the world of Marc Pascal - a world in which the slinky, sensual, sexy and surreal harbour, this is an alternate world, one where the imagination extends beyond form and everything is larger than life! I can’t see my face is a floor to ceiling installation featuring recent lighting and products by Marc Pascal for Omvivio. In the company of his elegant chandelier named Eyoi Yoi and vases Vovo and Unu Unu Pascal introduces us to the many characters and personalities who have inspired his lamps, pendants, vases and dining accessories in a larger than life wall cartoon.

Simone LeAmon. A Supersystem Concept for 5 Products & Post object confessions
How do a day bed, timepiece, light, kettle and purse relate – and generate from the same source, separate and go back together again, and why does Simone LeAmon kiss motorbikes when she is in Milan? A Supersystem Concept for 5 Products is a cerebral/visual design proposal, which explores the notion of lifestyle products in the company of general human affections such as desire, comfort, disappointment and love. Using digital technologies, video, photography and text LeAmon weaves a series of compelling tales titled Post Object Confessions in which motorbikes and purses, and bikinis and headlights come together – naturally, in new product designs.
