Toronto (28 April 2005) – Gallery Neubacher announces today the opening of the latest exhibition by artist, Martin Ouellette. One of the Toronto art scene’s great young painters, Ouellette hits hard with his second solo show at Gallery Neubacher. His large seductive oil paintings grace the walls of Toronto’s most spectacular venue – The Carlu, as well as some of the most stylish venues and homes from Toronto to Los Angeles.
His paintings are enlargements of everyday objects, such as barbed wire, magazines, and drywall screws. Images so sizable that they create their own separate meaning becoming more than their original forms. These mass produced objects when realistically painted by Ouellette become a declaration of our humanness. Manufactured objects used and disposed of daily, Ouellette coddles with reverence. He seduces his audience through his paintings, which gush with vibrant colour, texture, and truly unique composition. “There’s irony in what I do—turning the idea of trash to something that is sexy,†conveys Ouellette about his work.
