David Meanix: Second Nature - Photosculpture
David Meanix makes original three-dimensional portrait sculpture out of prepared photographic images, then re-photographs the sculpture in new surroundings. The resulting images powerfully transform image, identity, and place. Viewers are inevitably compelled at a personal level by his images, as they raise unexpectedly intense subconscious responses by shattering preconceptions.
Meanix has pioneered a technique whereby he shoots “one shot per every plane of the subject, inch by inch until I've covered all of the subject I want to sculpt. Next, I print each picture to 'actual size.' Then I match and cover the original subject with paper maché photocopies of those pictures.†He then uses the finished sculptures as a “mask prop,†which becomes a character in a photographic tableau. Unlike traditional characters, these are charged with additional contradictions of context and authenticity. Recast using various techniques of commercial photography such as portraiture, fashion, and advertising, the resulting tableaux convey a truly remarkable sensibility.
David Meanix's artwork were featured on Six Feet Under episodes 11 and 12 on August 29 and Sept 12, 2004.

Louie Metz: That Goden Age - New Paintings
Opening Reception
Thursday, June 9, 5 - 9pm
Louie Metz paints the figure in the vernacular of everyday Los Angeles. Utilizing layers of clear resin and oils, he achieves a degree of transparency and fluidity in his technique which lends itself to the sensuousness of his subjects. These paintings are grounded in hard reality; they are the product of an artist who sees things as they are and celebrates the qualities of physicality.
