The Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery Associates and the City of Los Angeles
Department of Cultural Affairs are pleased to present the 2005 Los Angeles
Juried Exhibition. The 2005 Los Angeles Juried Exhibition is a multi-site,
biennial program providing Southern California artists with a competitive
opportunity to exhibit their work in selected City-owned art galleries. The
work of adult artists will be on display at the Eagle Rock Center for the
Arts, the Municipal Art Gallery, and the William Grant Still Art Center. The
work of youth artists will be on display at the Canoga Park Youth Arts
Center and the Junior Arts Center. An opening reception will be held at each
of the five sites simultaneously on July 10.
Adult and youth artists submitted over 1,600 works of art for consideration
in this year¹s competition. For the adult competition, 223 works by 111
artists were selected to participate; for the youth competition, 59 pieces
by 27 artists were selected. In addition to exhibition, artists will also
receive recognition through the award component of the program. An Awards
Ceremony will be held at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery during its
opening reception, at which time there will also be live music by the Nedra
Wheeler Jazz Quartet. For adults, the first place winner will receive
$1,000; second place will receive $500; and third place will receive $300.
For youth, one youth artist at each the Canoga Park Youth Arts Center and
the Junior Arts Center will receive a $100 cash prize. The prize recipients
have been selected by prominent curators and arts professionals from Los
Angeles area arts institutions, including James Elaine, Curator of Hammer
Projects, UCLA Hammer Museum; Barbara Gilbert, Curator of Fine Art, Skirball
Cultural Center; and Karin Higa, Director, Curatorial & Exhibition
Departments, Japanese American National Museum. The youth juror is Lamonte
