TRIMPIN

Missoula Art Museum, Missoula

comunicato stampa

Conloninpurple.
German-born artist Trimpin will visit Missoula and install a unique sound installation in the First Floor Gallery of the Art Museum of Missoula. The installation, entitled Conloninpurple, is a five-octave, room-sized metal and wood instrument that produces natural sounds played by museum visitors or applying pre-composed musical sequences. A tribute to the composer Conlon Nancarrow, a great influence on Trimpin's work, Conloninpurple incorporates compositions based on time and space.

Trimpin's work is an ongoing exploration of aspects of sound and vision: he combines exciting sounds with visually dynamic forms to create a new, physical perception of automated (non-synthesized) sound-producing sculptures.
Although he uses the latest computer technology, the aural outcome of the sculptures is completely acoustic and can reflect both Eastern and Western tonal structures. Trimpin was featured in April 1999 issue of Smithsonian, and has received prestigious awards, including the Guggenheim Fellowship and the MacArthur Fellowship. The Holter Museum of Art in Helena, MT, funded in part by an anonymous donor, commissioned and organized this popular installation.
