Paintings, prints, sculpture and architecture
RSA Annual Exhibition
The Royal Scottish Academy's Annual Exhibition started in 1827. In 2005 it coincides with the Edinburgh International Festival and continues until December. A veritable cathedral of art, all 12 galleries of the newly-refurbished building are used to showcase the range of talent at work in Scotland today.
The show features paintings, prints, sculpture and architecture from across the country and is an ideal opportunity to see (and buy!) original works by leading Scottish artists.
A celebration of Scottish Art covering both the Summer and Winter Festivals in Edinburgh......
IN 2005 the RSA Annual Exhibition will take place during August and September 2005 coinciding with the Edinburgh Festivals. The exhibition will showcase the changes afoot at the RSA.
RSA OPEN
For one year only, the show will have a sister exhibition during November/December presenting works from artists around Scotland - the ideal time to buy a bargain gem for a loved one ...... (or yourself!)

Founded in 1826, and from its very inception housed in William Henry Playfair's landmark building on The Mound, the Royal Scottish Academy reflected the tenor of the times, with 11 artists agreeing that they should not only develop a library but also host an annual exhibition. The first exhibition was in 1827.
In 1850 Prince Albert laid the foundation stone for a new building at the back of the Royal Academy, again designed by William Henry Playfair. Now known as the National Gallery of Scotland, the two buildings have - as of 4 August 2004 - been connected by an underground link, the Weston Link, which is the final stage of a five-year renovation project to upgrade the two buildings to the highest international standard for exhibiting.
