Unsung Heroes
The Drawing Club presents, "Unsung Heroes". A show of limited edition
silkscreened art by Eric Tan and Rich Tuzon. This is a two man silkscreen
show in the era of the digital age. Both artists put away Their computers
and went back to their grassroots, old school garage kit methods of burning
images with the sun and cleaning screens in the backyard with a garden hose
for this show.
Rich Tuzon finds inspiration in his drawings of everyday life observed at
places like the comic-con, chicken market workers in Chinatown and local
architecture. The stage is set, even in the most banal scene, for a hero to
emerge. These images profoundly conjure emotions ranging from humorous to
the loneliness of solitude.
Eric Tan is influenced by his own eccentric experiences at a little school
in San Diego. Eric's series of prints depict a select group of students
attending his fictional Crest Falls Institute for the Gifted. Capturing the
charm, humor, and uneasiness, of those developmental years, his prints will
hope to either take the viewer on a nostalgic trip back to simpler
times...or a nauseating nightmare through the halls of elementary school.
The Drawing Club was established in 2002 as a drawing workshop and has
expanded to include special exhibitions. The Drawing Club was created by Bob
Kato a drawing and painting instructor with over 15 years experience
teaching at The Art Center College of Design, Walt Disney Feature Animation
and Walt Disney Consumer Products.
