The company Noved Land will take part in the "Nuit Blanche" in Paris, on the 1st October 2005, with the performance "Street Dreams". This show will take place in an unused shop window in the 18th district.
Since it's creation in 2003, Noved Land takes part in the creation of theatrical show pieces and cultural events.
Street Dreams is a project by Sicilian artists Marcello Scuderi (director and comedian) and Rosario Caltabiano (photographer). These 2 artists have proposed to a family to sleep in a shop window during the whole Nuit Blanche open to the view of spectators! A bedroom is laid out in the shop window, passers by take part in the peaceful sleep of a couple, their baby and their cat.
To sleep. An act normally reserved to a private sphere becomes a public act and therefore theatre. Above the shop window, in the first floor windows, video projections show a dream scene of those sleeping. By these projected images, the 2 creators of this performance lend their life soaked with Sicilian souvenirs to a French family. The daily life of these two artists on their island of birth, thus transforms into an exotic dream for the family who are sleeping in a Paris window. These images, shot in Sicily by Rosario Caltabiano, will be put to sound by Paolo Rizzotti (himself Sicilan too), while Marcello Scuderi directs the scene of the family sleeping in the window below.
Two worlds exposed: below, on the ground floor, the reality of those sleeping and upstairs, the world of dream consisting of images, of a Sicily without complaisance nor folklore. The land of origin of the creators thus transforms into a common archaic place, an imaginary country where all dreams are born.
Marcello Scuderi, born in Catania (Sicily), set off on his artistic path in Italy as a comedian. From 1982 to 1995 playing Italian Repertory in the largest theatre companies with some appearances in cinema and television. In 1995 he settled in France and starts directing choosing authors of new italian dramaturgie...
Born in Catania (Sicily) in 1972, having received an engineering diploma at Turin Polytechnic in 1999, Rosario Caltabiano launches into a career in independant photography taking several classes in photography and fine arts with EO. Today living in Paris where he continues his formation at Paris University 8 at St Denis at the Plastic Arts faculty, deepening the world of the image. Since 2001, he shows regularly in France and Italy.
