-scope art fair inc. is pleased to announce that its next fair, -scopeLondon, will take place Friday, October 21st, through Monday, October 24th 2005. Building on the success of its international art fair program, -scope returns with a sophisticated new location, the dazzling St Martins Lane Hotel, 45 St. Martins Lane. Situated in the heart of London, -scopeLondon will merge cutting-edge art and emerging culture with a special focus this year on arts education. The hours of the fair are 12pm to 8pm daily. Admission is £10 and includes a catalogue.
Like no other art fair, -scopeLondon will bring international emerging contemporary art to London. Press Conference: The press is invited to join us for a conference and brunch. Enjoy a special performance and video presentation while learning more about -scopeLondon. At the St Martins Lane Hotel on September 22nd, 2005 from 10 to 11am.
VIP/Press Preview Brunch: -scopeLondon launches with a Preview Friday, October 21st, from 12pm to 3pm. The brunch will feature special performances. Please RSVP to rsvp@scope-art.com.
VIP Benefit Reception: Hosted by the -scopeCircle, the VIP Benefit begins Friday October 21st, 2005 at 5pm, and will support Saving Faces, the Facial Surgery Research Foundation. Founded by the co-chairpersons of the -scopeCircle, Dr. Iain Hutchison and Baroness Lady Helena Kennedy QC, Saving Faces is the first UK charity devoted to research into facial diseases (http://www.savingfaces.co.uk).
Culture on the Verge: -scope’s highly anticipated opening night event begins after the VIP Benefit Reception (see above). The evening festivities continue off-site with Culture on the Verge starting at 10pm (VIP admission only), which will feature live music, special performances, and film/video screenings.
Performance-scope: Curated by Hames Levack Foundation, a London-based not-for-profit arts organization, Performance-scope will showcase artists from London, New York, Berlin and Norway, including artists from Slade School of Fine Art, Goldsmith College, and St. Martin's College. All performances will take place in and around the venue.
Panels: Informative and interactive discussions sponsored by ArtReview. Teach your Children Well: Art & Education on October 22nd and Should I Stay or Should I Go: Art Schools & the Marketplace on October 23rd. Both are from 4pm to 5pm and are included with admission.
kids-scope: Create (www.createarts.org.uk) will present a pair of collage workshops led by a professional artist that will encourage children to be creative and experimental. Using the richness and vibrancy of Covent Garden as their inspiration, each child will create an individual collage piece, which they will then cut out and stick onto a kids-scope frieze. By the end of Sunday’s workshops, the frieze will be a large and colorful representation of Covent Garden. Workshops will occur on Saturday, October 22nd, and Sunday, October 23rd, from 2-6pm.
Cinema-scope: Being shown during the 2006 Sundance Film Festival, Cinema-scope blurs the classic expectation of video and film, and features programming of exhibitor and curator submitted work. Additionally, special screenings of additional works will be on view during selected hours.
Silent Auction: Works are donated by exhibitors. Bidding begins on Friday, October 21st at 12pm and closes on Sunday, October 24th at 4pm. Proceeds will benefit Camden Arts Centre (www.camdenartscentre.org) and Create (www.createarts.org.uk), local not-for-profit art education programs, in addition to supporting the Emerging Artist Grant, Independent Curator Awards, and Performance-scope Grants.

Saving Faces, the Facial Surgery Research Foundation (www.savingfaces.co.uk) is the first UK charity devoted to research of facial diseases. The Foundation aims to secure funds for research of all aspects of disorders affecting the mouth and face, such as cancer, facial deformity, and injuries.Saving Faces was launched in June 2000 at the National Portrait Gallery by Chris Smith, MP., the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Dr. Iain Hutchison, the oral and maxillofacial surgeon at St. Bartholomew's Hospital, and Lady Helena Kennedy QC, one of Britain's leading lawyers and the chair of the British Council since 1998.
