A contemporary art fair that was conceived as a project with a unique character, identifiable with the image Salamanca enjoys as city of culture in which the historical coexists with the contemporary. The focus of the show is the idea of 'art and city', reflecting the existing connections between memory, heritage and architecture. Galleries are invited to present artists who address this concept.
art/salamanca/05 is a contemporary art fair that was conceived as a project with a unique character, identifiable with the image Salamanca enjoys as a city of culture: a city in which the historical and contemporary coexist; a city with a substantial historic and artistic heritage, with an enormous touristic potential, an excellent center for contemporary art, Domus Artium 2002, as well as a city with an extensive service infrastructure.
Art and City
The focus of art/salamanca/05 is the idea of “art and city,†reflecting the existing connections between memory, heritage and architecture. Galleries are invited to present artists who address this concept in their paintings, drawings, photography, sculptures, installations, videos, performances, models, plans and designs. This approach will also mark the parallel activities of the Fair.
Galleries
The fair emphasizes quality rather than quantity. A total of 20 to 25 galleries from all over Spain and several on special invitation from Portugal will be represented. Particular stress will be placed on the work of emerging artists.
The participating galleries have been selected by the Fair’s jury, comprised of the following members:
