The Brickyard, Vancouver's foremost LowBrow Gallery presents it's February Art Exhibit Love Hurts. A Pop Art extravaganza featuring new works by The PopTarts of Pop Art Nicole Steen, Arlene Kofol, and Vicki M. Valentine's Day conjures images of romance, promise and sentimentality. Love Hurts looks at our preconceptions about love and romance,particularly how they have been portrayed through the media. Working within this common theme each artist presents her personal experience. Nicole Steen's work,subtitled The Kiss uses pop icons to foreshadow the unwinding and eventual demise of the relationship. Arlene Kofol has chosen gore/horror film imagery as metaphors defining the painful aspects of love. Vicki M.'s work references Girl romance comics with their predictable stories and inevitable happy endings.
