Harmony. Paintings 1998-2005
This exhibition of around 80 works by the painter Eberhard Havekost is his first
presentation on a larger scale in the Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg. The artist is already
represented in the museum’s permanent collection by four works (which include groups
of paintings) and has previously been shown here in two group exhibitions.Born in
1967 in Dresden, Havekost, whose ‘cool’ painterly style is inspired by modern media,
belongs to an internationally acclaimed group of younger artists who were born or
studied in Dresden.
Besides portraits and subjects from nature, architectural motifs
and ‘mobile homes’ – cars, caravans or small aircraft – are key themes in his
paintings. Havekost often creates large series of paintings in which he explores the
artistic relevance of individual motifs. The starting point for his paintings are
images derived from the electronic and print media, but also photographs he takes
himself, which are subsequently processed using complex computer technology. The
exhibition is supported by VOLKSWAGEN BANK.
