Sounds and Echoes
ANDLAB Gallery invites you to an exhibit of recent paintings by Jon Nguyen
and Ramone Muñoz, two Los Angeles based artists in a show entitled SOUNDS
AND ECHOES - presentness and perpetuity at ANDLAB Gallery in Los Angeles,
November 12, 2005 to January 14, 2006.
Jon Nguyen's series 'Noise' depicts sensory overload resulting from the
complex, yet disconnected network of media to which all have access. The
full spectrum of saturated and metallic colors promiscuously lure viewers
into the compositions, much as media 'noise' charms the audience with
evocative language and precision phrases.
The work presents the order and
chaos experienced in the social and political landscape of America and
contemporary culture. 'Noise' informs while it misdirects and ultimately
seduces us with an embrace that is, at once, intimate yet indefinite.
The ongoing 'Shift Site' series by Ramone Munoz deals with visual echoes
that act as mirrors of time and space, capturing the motion and stillness of
existence reflected in archaeology and geology. These works function as
meditations on the brevity of human existence, visual echoes which break
down distinctions between natural forms and man-made structures.
An echo is
a record of something that has already happened, a reverberation and
continuous recontextualization of memory, the present slipping into the past
as forms shift, move, fracture and re-compose.
ANDLAB shows work by contemporary artists in its gallery. It acts as a forum
for the presentation of ideas through its range of lectures, concerts, and
discussions. ANDLAB, in its mission to foster curiosity and knowledge,
offers a variety of educational opportunities and creative developments
through its selection of art and design classes and projects.
