Works on display consist of some 30 major paintings and sculptures which will trace the artistic progression of Tapies. His works, with their strong links to the culture of his native Catalonia and to its tragic history, encompassing the Spanish Civil War, World War II and the political oppression of the Franco regime, are deeply imbued with the artist's striving after freedom of spirit and expression.
