Journeys - Digital Paintings and Photo-images

Linley Eathorne's mesmerizing and vibrant digital paintings and photo-images are center stage at Abbot Kinney Art Gallery (Venice, CA) November 22nd through December 18th. The Opening Reception, to be held on Sunday, December 4th, from 3-5:30pm, with live Celtic flute music by Susan Craig Winsberg, is also a fundraiser for Independent World Television. A portion of the evening's sales will be donated to assist IWT in building the world's first global non-profit news network designed to deliver independent news and real debate without funding from governments, corporations, or advertising. A brief presentation will be given.

Eathorne, born in New Zealand, spent more of her life outside her native country than in it. She traveled extensively throughout Europe, lived in England, France, Italy, Scotland, Canada and Germany, with careers ranging from stage and voice-over actress, language teacher, acting coach, theater director, event organizer and national public radio broadcaster. In 1983, photography classes at Ontario College of Art and Design (Toronto, Canada) changed the focus of her life. Her earlier work (abstracts and portraits in black and white photography), changed dramatically when she moved to Southern California in 2000. Jolted by the vibrant colors of the Southland and the discovery of digital processes, Eathorne found a new freedom of expression as well as a new direction to her art.

Her current work is concerned with the human condition and metaphysical themes- the straining towards transformation and change, the difficulty and joy of life's journey and the mystery of space and the spheres. She says the work has become a kind of spiritual expression - moving closer to the process of painting and reveling in the power of color.
