The artist has produced a series of ranking projects that challenge the historical and contemporary notions of aesthetics, politicality, and subjectivity. The exhibition is centred around the installation piece entitled 100 Popular First Names. In this project, Oh has ranked one hundred of the most popular baby names published by the Social Security Administration in 2004 according to his aesthetic judgment.

Pari Nadimi gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of the new gallery artist, Michael Euyung Oh.

MichaelEuyung Oh is a Vancouver-based artist working within the legacy of conceptual art. Broadening and often subverting the notion of the conceptual, Oh has produced a series of ranking projects that challenge the historical and contemporary notions of aesthetics, politicality, and subjectivity. In his 200 Sex Offenders (2000-2001), for example, Oh has gathered and ranked two hundred mug shot photographs of registered sex offenders according to "the artist's aesthetic judgment". Similarly, he has ranked 192 national flags representing all the members of the United Nations Committee in his latter installation piece entitled 192 National Flags (2001-2002).

MichaelEuyung Oh's exhibition at the Pari Nadimi is centred around the installation piece entitled 100 Popular First Names (2004-2005). In this project, Oh has ranked one hundred of the most popular baby names published by the Social Security Administration in 2004 according to his aesthetic judgment. Two of the other works included in the exhibition are National Anthem Favorites (2005) and 26 Navy SignalFlags (2004).

Oh'swork has been exhibited internationally in London, Vienna, Geneva, Turin, and Seoul. Recent exhibitions and projects include ClassifiedMaterials: Accumulations, Archives, Artists, Vancouver Art Gallery (2005); Public 28: Satan Oscillate My Metallic Sonatas, Contemporary Art Gallery, Vancouver (2004); ParallaxView, the Western Front, Vancouver (2003); Sphere, Presentation House Gallery, Vancouver (2003); and About Time, Canadian Embassy Gallery, Washington, DC (2003).

MichaelEuyung Oh was born in Seoul, Korea, 1976. He lives and works in Vancouver, BC.
