He was one of the leading figures of the New Objectivity movement. The retrospective includes 84 works created by an artist who lived through the most significant events of the 20th century: the Weimar Republic, National Socialism and the two world wars. Through 35 oils, 27 gouaches and watercolours and 22 drawings, the exhibition covers almost all of Dix's career from 1914 to 1969, the year of his death. It places particular emphasis on the 1920s and 1930s.
