A Solo Show

A solo exhibition of one the world’s most exciting living artists, Argentinean Gustavo Lopez Armentia, will be presented by galerie yoramgil, who represents the artist on the West Coast and promotes him throughout the U.S. and internationally.

Born in 1949, Lopez Armentia, grew up during the Peron regime and today is among the leading artists in his country. Oppression is known to foster new artistic movements the likes of Armentia’s generation. While some of his peers are still angry, Armentia took a softer path, so typical to Argentina.

Armentia views himself as a citizen of the world, captivated by its many different cultures, and all are part of his art. He work is a combination of both traditional and non-conventional mediums. People, migration and society’s discarded products, all take a front seat. As he says, “the found objects add textures to my paintings, and bring along their stories which become my own".

Since 1983, Armentia has participated in over 70 solo and group shows around the world, most notably mid-career retrospectives in 1995 and 2002 at the Museo Nacional De Bellas Artes in Buenos Aires, Argentina as well as one at the Centro de Cultura de Valencia, Spain. It’s no wonder that the exceptionally talented Armentia is often Argentina’s official entry to prestigious international forums like the Venice and Sao Paulo Biennials and many others.

Since 1982, the self taught Armentia has won numerous awards including .1983 1st Prize, Israeli Cultural and Scientific Institution .1986 1st Prize, 1st Biennial Exhibition of Latin American Art, Miami.1986 Gold Medal, Argentine Association of Art Critics. .1986 Gold Medal, C.A.Y.C.1989 1st Prize, Manliba Visual Arts.1990 1st Prize, Alto Palermo, C.A.Y.C.1991 1st Prize, Hoechst Award.1992 Artist of the Year 1991, Argentine Association of Art Critics.1992 Gold Medal, C.A.Y.C.1992 3rd Prize, 9th Latin-American Biennial of Art

His work is included in many museum collections across South America.

Humanitarians are rare, and exceptional artists are few and far between. The two combined in one person - Gustavo Lopez Armentia - is a rare find.
