Les "Raynaud de Raynaud"

" "Les Raynaud de Raynaud" is a manifesto, rather than the exhibition of my collection. It is an alternative to a classical presentation, a new contextualisation of my work, the refusal of an incomplete reading. As long as I shall perform the creative act, in other words, as long as I live, it will always be premature to issue a final verdict.
If you aren’t lucky enough to die young, leaving an accomplished body of works, managing Time and the Work raises a seemingly insuperable problem. After a forty-year research, it is understandable that the current action may seem to carry little weight. But in my opinion, the present time permanently calls into question what the artist may allow himself to undertake, even the destruction of his work. He must remain the only one to decide, notwithstanding moral, intellectual or consensual considerations, and to confront his own freedom. Art deserves every audacity and requires, as far as I am concerned, a limitless commitment.
All the Raynaud objects, from the first "Pot" to the last "Flag", contain the "OBJET RAYNAUD" axiom, validating each of my gestures, with the idea that they may be directly interpreted. Thus, any work is the Work, even if it is repeated in thousands of copies. For me, each and every one possesses the absolute autonomy required to achieve its status as a Work of art. This is the adventure of the flowerpot, which has followed me throughout the years. The "Pot" is the archetype of the archetype. It sets the tone, the axis and the method. It is what remains constant in my work because it is the first gesture signifying my commitment and my responsibility as an artist.
Thus, the place I allot to the present time becomes essential; it allows my gaze and my action to be confronted with the outside world, with current events. I don’t want to avoid taking this risk. The produced works must be able to withstand confrontation with reality, and to act upon it.
"Les Raynaud de Raynaud" sets into perspective an individual project of freedom; it is also a new apprehension of the Work and of Art in a mutating global context. "
