Cryptozoology
Group show
McCaig-Welles Gallery is pleased to announce its
upcoming group exhibition featuring many influential
artists from all over the United States:
George Thompson, Samuel Parker, Nils Thorsen, BSPEK,
Tighe Clark, Henry Ng, LogikOne, Aaron Nye, Jason
Honig, Ryan Kelly, Sean Taggart and Nico Berry
This group show will depict the individual artist’s
perspective on the
idea
of "Cryptozoology". The artists have distinctive
creative backgrounds,
but
each have a common thread of influence reflected in
their, tattoo art,
comic
books, graphic design, illustration, and graffiti
art. Each artist took
on
the old concept of "Cryptozoology" and fused it with
a modern point of
view
while utilizing both traditional and contemporary
mediums. Aggressive,
slick, comic narrative, and gritty street styles
provides a view of the
encrypted world of the hidden animals in all of us.
"Cryptozoology" is an actual science, where
zoologists are on a mission
to
prove the existence of present-day "mythological"
animals such as the
classic Big Foot, the alligator in the sewers, and
other fascinating
folklores. The idea of hidden messages in animals
has always been a
fascinating topic for man. Early cave drawings have
proven that the
idea of
hidden animals in our world has been with us since
the dawn of man.
These
ideas still ignite the imagination of our culture.

on March 3, 2001 on the Southside of Williamsburg,
Brooklyn. Four years later, and a few blocks further
North, McCaig-Welles has continued its focus in
championing street artists rather than career-minded
art-school graduates. Many of McCaig-Welles’s
artists are mid-career and well known, but a large
emphasis is focused on up-and-coming, edgy artists
who are just beginning to exhibit in NYC.
McCaig-Welles Gallery repertoire includes Shepard
Fairey, The Goldmine Shithouse, Andrew Schoultz,
Greg Lamarche, SEEN, Dalek, Tristan Eaton, David
Stoupakis, Martha Cooper, and more. McCaig-Welles is
a member of The Williamsburg Gallery Association and
was cited for "Best Graffiti Art" in "The Best of
Manhattan" issue of The New York Press. Recent
reviews and articles have been featured in The New
York Art World, Art and Antiques Magazine, The New
York Sun, The New
York Press, AM NY, The Village Voice, The Wooster
