Real Estate, 2006. Advertising Camapign & Posters in Berlin
In conjunction with Homie, from April 22nd - May 13th, Katarina Burin will display a series of Enticing Advertisements throughout Berlin. The posters which offer a catalog of styles continue Burin's investigations into restoration and tourism — the renovating of lost structures and a mode of travel conducted entirely through advertisements and images. Unlike real posters, Burin’s slogans are open-ended; the images are often not graphically printed, but rather drawn with delicate and stylized - lines.
Over the course of the exhibition, Burin's advertisements will appear around Berlin. Events and images arising from the posters will make their way into Homie. This will culminate in the Closing on May 6th.
Katarina Burin lives and works in Berlin. She was born in Bratislava, Slovakia. Her work has been shown in New York, Berlin, Munich, Bregenz (Austria), and Vienna. She is a past recipient of the A-9 Forum Transeuropa residency, as well as a Daedalus Foundation grant.
Homie is an artist-run, public project, apartment space in Berlin. It serves to showcase the work of one artist per month. Homie is a small room which resides in the second floor apartment of its owners. It opens directly to the building's stairwell and is separated from the living space by another door. Its intimate scale and architecture create a setting in which ideas of visitation/residence, owned/for sale, and public/private are always in flux.
Closing Reception: May 6th, Saturday, 7-10 PM
