Begun by Bruce Haines with Richard Forster, Rachel Harrison, Franz West, Rudolf Polanzsky and friends, ‘Daisy chain’ begins with Richard Forster (b. 1970, lives Saltburn by Sea, Teeside), whose meticulous and athletic drawings reproduce found photographs that until now have remained mostly a private occupation. Their interest lies part in their selection, from 1980’s open plan offices to the sea off the Northumberland coast and the Folies Bergeres. Richard is interested in the photography and sculpture of Rachel Harrison (b. 1966, lives New York) whose objects create an obtuse dialog between pop and minimalism.
She uses the photograph as object, a kind of coda to images that seem at odds with her often rough hewn and painted sculptures, plinths for seemingly unrelated and quirky additions. Rachel hadn’t shown yet with Franz West (b.1947, lives Vienna) who has selected two messy and animalistic collaged posters for exhibitions in response to being introduced to Rachel’s work, inspired by glossy magazines and the allure of soft-porn. Franz has collaborated previously with Rudolf Polanzsky (Vienna) who makes photographic collages, films and sculpture and who in turn has been invited to introduce an artist of his choice to participate in Daisychain.
