Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum
The exhibition will feature a series of thirty paintings housed in a purpose-built pavilion that recreates the dimensions and character of Kiefer’s own atelier in France. The paintings and the pavilion are Kiefer’s tribute to the visionary Russian thinker Velimir Chlebnikov. The museum opens also two new exhibitions including Land Mine, featuring the work of three artists, Laleh Khorramian, Wangechi Mutu, and Michael Zansky, in addition to a solo project by Julian Opie, Sara dancing sparkly top.
Velimir Chlebnikov
The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum is pleased to announce the opening of Anselm
Kiefer: Velimir Chlebnikov, the most ambitious outdoor exhibition in the Museum’s
history on view to the public May 27 through October 1, 2006. The exhibition will
feature a series of thirty paintings housed in a purpose-built pavilion that
recreates the dimensions and character of Kiefer’s own atelier in France. The
paintings and the pavilion are Kiefer’s tribute to the visionary Russian thinker
Velimir Chlebnikov (1885-1922), who lived a brief and tumultuous life as a leading
figure in the Russian avant-garde during World War I and the Russian revolution. The
paintings cast Chlebnikov’s ideas in the theater of the historic sea battle,
incorporating actual model ships into the surfaces of his paintings.
In addition to Anselm Kiefer: Velimir Chlebnikov, The Aldrich is pleased to open two
new exhibitions including Land Mine, featuring the work of three artists, Laleh
Khorramian, Wangechi Mutu, and Michael Zansky, in addition to a solo project by
Julian Opie, Sara dancing sparkly top.
For twenty weeks from May 27 to October 1, 2006, The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum
will partner with the Housatonic Area Regional Transit District (HART) to provide
Saturday and Sunday bus service to Ridgefield, Connecticut, from the Katonah, New
York, Metro-North Railroad (MTA) station. This partnership will make Ridgefield
easily accessible from New York City, and will bring visitors not only to the
