Thrust Projects is pleased to present a solo exhibition of new work by
Elizabeth Cooper.
Elizabeth Cooper is a painter who works with the formal qualities of color
and process, connecting
various forms of abstraction with the visceral qualities of oil paint. Loose
gestural abstraction
combines with concrete and precisely drawn forms that act as foils for the
action. Quick gestures
and slow pours pile up and combine to create paintings that are both
humorous and aggressive.
This is Cooper's fourth New York solo exhibition. She has been exhibiting
her work professionally
since 1996 and has shown locally and internationally at venues such as Neues
Museum Nurnberg,
Kunstverein St. Gallen, Galerie Rolf Ricke (Cologne), Artists Space, Exit
Art, P.S.1 Contemporary
Art Center and Galerie Thaddeus Ropac (Salzburg). Her most recent solo show
was at Galerie Schmidt
Maczolek, Cologne in 2005. Her paintings are in many prominent collections,
including Progressive
Art Collection, David Reed and The UBS Collection.
Elizabeth Cooper is a New York native, born in Queens in 1972 and lives in
Brooklyn. She graduated
from Cooper Union in 1994 and received her M.F.A. from Columbia University
in 1997.
The opening is Fri, June 2nd from 6-9 pm
