Hetty Ave, Fairland, this exhibition by three young artists from Pretoria,
who all studied together, will open on Sunday 2nd July with a preview on the
Saturday prior to the opening. Maya Marx will do the opening address.
Dylan Graham quotes: "A singular object carries various meanings and is
various things at the same time, for example: A painting is a wall hanging.
It is also an act that lasted a certain amount of time. At the same time it
is an object which consists of a surface made of wood/canvas, oils and
pigments."
Cobus Haupt quotes: "I am a figure sculptor. I work from live models and
model in clay. A mould is then made and the work is cast in bronze or
another material like sement/hadrostone.
The end product is not a person finding him/herself in space, like a man
sitting on a desk or a girl posing for a sculptor, but existing here and now
in the same reality as the viewer and it can be physically handled."
Sarel Petrus quotes: "Human existence and natural environment are linked,
through timeless, mysterious convergences of journeys. My work is
predominantly assembled using found objects from both the natural and
man-made. The found objects invoke a sense of preciousness and nostalgia.
On my own travels I collect remnants of other journeys. Bodies, skulls,
bones, skin, hair, excrement, physical remains of odysseys completed or
abruptly ended, some still in progress."
