“Emergency Biennale in Chechnya" is crossing the Atlantic for the 7th stop
of its world tour. This suitcase exhibition has already been seen in Paris,
Brussels, Bolzano, Milan, Riga (Latvia) and Tallinn (Estonia), and is on its
way to Grozny.
Intended to reintroduce Chechnya to an international audience while reacting
to the phenomenal proliferation of international biennales, “Emergency
Biennale in Chechnya" was conceived in a geopolitical context which has
become so complex that it seemed urgent and necessary to mobilize the
artists. The concept involved a call to artists from all over the world to
create works to fit in a suitcase. For each stop, new artists are invited to
join.
Emergency Biennale in Chechnya / Vancouver stop, is organized by Alice Ming
Wai Jim, Kristina Podesva and Babak Golkar, and welcomes new invited
artists: Hank Bull, Ken Lum, Mo Salemy, Jayce Salloum and IN[ ]EX. Artists
