Roman Ondak

Tate Modern, London

Ondak's art focuses on questioning perception and the nature of codes and conventions of social behaviour. Previous works include Good Feelings in Good Times 2003, which consisted of a queue of people which formed, dispersed and then regrouped in various locations at Frieze Art Fair in 2004. More recently a discreet performance called Resistance 2006 took place at the Museum for Modern Art in Vienna.

Ondak's art focuses on questioning perception and the nature of codes and conventions of social behaviour. More recently a discreet performance called Resistance 2006 took place at the Museum for Modern Art in Vienna involving people walking around the museum with untied shoe laces.

For the Level 2 Gallery, Ondak has created a captivating work which continues his exploration of social and cultural expectations.

Kathrin Rhomberg on Roman Ondak
Saturday 16 September 2006
18.30-20.00

Roman Ondak has invited Kathrin Rhomberg, the Director of Kunstverein in Cologne, to talk about how she has developed the Kunstverein's exhibition space and programme. The structure of the building that houses the Kunstverein provides an infrastructure that forms the basis for developing new models of communication and space, contributing to the sensual experience of art, fostering discussion and reflection and helping to question the conditions of art's production.

Rhomberg has been a key figure in supporting Ondak's work, giving him a solo-exhibition, Spirit and Opportunity, in 2004 and inviting him to curate an exhibition of the Slovakian conceptual artist Julius Koller's work in 2003. Rhomberg discusses Ondak's work in the context of the development of the programme at the Kunstverein. Tate Modern Seminar Room Free, no bookings taken
