Journey for peace. His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama
Journey for peace. His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama
Swiss photographer Manuel Bauer has photographed the Dalai Lama for over fifteen years. The privileged access granted to him by His Holiness has enabled Bauer to offer these powerful images, oscillating between the spiritual and the personal, the public and the intimate, the epic and the anecdotal.
About Bauer the Dalai Lama says, “Manuel Bauer is more than simply a professional: he is a close friend of mine. He also knows a great deal about Tibet, about the Tibetan community, and he has spent years making himself familiar with our culture. He understands Tibet comprehensively, as he does the exile community; and he knows me very well too. It is this knowledge that allows his pictures to say so much about their subjects."
The exhibition will open on Saturday, December 2nd, 2006 with an opening reception from 7:00 to 9:00 pm for the artist with guest speaker Tenzing Chonden, the North American Representative to the Tibetan Parliament in Exile and a blessing ceremony given by Ven. Lama Chodak Gyatso, Founding Director of the American Foundation for Tibetan Cultural Preservation & Resident Lama at T'hondup Ling in Los Angeles.
A percentage of each photograph sold will go to Los Angeles Friends of Tibet. Since 1991, Los Angeles Friends of Tibet has been Southern California’s strongest voice for Tibet. They are an all-volunteer nonprofit organization that raises awareness about the Tibetan people’s non-violent struggle for true political autonomy. They are active in the national and international Tibet support movement and raise funds to help Tibetans in exile. Further information can be found on their website: http://www.latibet.org
