A group show of 8 new print editions. Forth Estate was founded by the printer Luther Davis and artist Glen Baldridge in 2005 as a means for young artists to edition new works in a well-equipped and innovative printshop. The editions included represent the wide range of technical and artistic possibilities of the artist-printer collaboration.

Klaus von Nichtssagend Gallery is pleased to present a group show of 8 new print editions from the first year of operations for Forth Estate, a publisher and producer of prints based in Brooklyn. Forth Estate was founded by master printer Luther Davis and artist Glen Baldridge in 2005 as a means for young artists to edition new works in a well-equipped, innovative, and expertly-run printshop. The editions included in this show represent the wide range of technical and artistic possibilities of the artist-printer collaboration.
While some of the artists in this show have previous knowledge of printmaking processes, for others it was a first opportunity to work with a printer to create an edition that expands and enhances their body of work. Whether they are primarily a painter, sculptor, or photographer the pieces they created with Forth Estate reflect a translation of their artistic processes and ideas to editioned works. Forth Estate Editions seeks not to replicate an existing artwork, but create a new piece through the collaborative pairing of artist with master printer, in which the printer provides the technical expertise in facilitating experimentation and creativity.
From Elise Ferguson’s foil-stamped metallic Foil (Red) to the layering of ink to achieve a trompe l’oeil effect on Ian Pedigo’s 2006, the prints in this show are examples of the Forth Estate’s novel approach to each new artwork.
Printed editions have long been an important means of artistic production. It is Forth Estate and Klaus von Nichtssagend’s goal with this show to enrich the contemporary context for the creation, and exhibition of fine art prints by working artists.
