Jae-Kyoo Chong

According to Jae-Kyoo CHONG photography is the possibility of operating a fractal vision of the reality. Jae-Kyoo's processus of making photography gives us the possibility to look at reality in definitely different ways by a set of division, a sort of deconstructing the visible.

Among the alive Korean artists in France, Chong Jae-Kyoo is one of the most important. The rigour of its method and the inventiveness in his photographics are an evidence. Chong Jae-Kyoo spent more than a half of his life outside his native country, today his work can be considered as a real bridge between two worlds and a synthesis between two concepts of Art.

Chong Jae-Kyoo is a plasticien photographer. His method is a double reflection which concerns at first the pictorial language as a system of autonomous signs and then on the possibility of expressing the essence of the reality through this system of none objective signs.

He studied philosophy and knows deeply the most important european concepts which gave birth to the major art movements mainly the Suprematism of Male'vitch, the Cubism and the Ne'o-Plasticisme of Mondrian. Having ventured painting a very short time, he is "seized" by the power of the photography.

"The Weaving of Time"

"My work of interweaving photographics consists in repeating the photographic orthogonal interlacing. The photographic image is cut vertically and woven with the Kraft paper cut horizontally. The result of the process finally allows us to perceive the dimension of time in the work _ the time which goes by and with it the entire world_ It can be the same process which connects two moments, between a promise and its execution in a future that is already achieved.
