New shows at the NSA
The NSA is presenting a double bill of contemporary painting: Nuno Da Cruz has been
making a name in Johannesburg for the past couple of years and is presenting new
works for the first time in Durban. The works in 'Barcode' in the Main Gallery are pop-like
paintings dealing with consumerism. Using mostly South African, but also global,
packaging, branding and advertising, Da Cruz works with actual wrappers, boxes or
logos. Inspiration is also drawn from comic books, especially those from the 60s, 70s and
early 80s and old local magazines such as Drum, Huisgenoot, and Scope. More on Da
Cruz at http://www.nunodacruz.co.za .
André Naudé needs very little introduction in KwaZulu Natal. This well-known artist is
visiting again to display recent paintings. His iconography includes various forms of the
vessel, twigs, wood and still-life.
