comunicato stampa

Dot Fiftyone Gallery announces the premier of artist Natalie Silva (Italy) first U.S. solo show to be unveiled in cocktail opening Saturday February 10, 2007, 7:30 PM - 11PM.

“Back Street Boys” exhibition will feature more than 10 large-scale paintings from the artist recent production. Part of the “Back Street Boys” painting series will be on view simultaneously in On/Off at the Royal Academy of Arts, London UK.

Natalie Silva considers herself a painter, not an artist. One of the features that along the years of her career it has being pointed out is her conciseness. The gift and the doom of always being present, to experience things as they happen; a feature that can give us alternatively great pleasures and great sufferings, depending on our sense of humor and on chance. Exactly when we look at one of her paintings. The “Back Street Boy” artworks are a series of earthlings casually (and poignantly) caught on any day in our financial cities and shopping districts around the globe. Daily lives - as they are given today - as Natalie in her act of painting; looking and painting synthesizes them, once again firmly related to knowing. Her eyes are restless, her hands too. She prefers doing, than talking about what she has done or will do. (Always let the past rest in peace and leave the future to chaos). Brought down to our scale: complex chemical reactions, that work or do not. Humans, whose energy and paths cross or merge or do not at any given level: magical, personal, symbolic or social. From an emotional and psychological point of view, this work deals with the lack of love. Everybody’s attention is drawn to money, for one shop that closes down a bank open. There are no truly romantic themes in movies or elsewhere, and to express love we resort to science fiction or cartoons. Men and women, whose energy draws lines and reverberates colors, a cosmogony of cities and humanity, a critical point, where cromophobia concentrates and implodes. Frames where the oversimplification of black & white is exceeded and concepts come across with a brushstroke. Naltalie Silva presents images you want to be left alone with.
