Ray Ceasar, Sas Christian, Erwin Olaf
Following in the tradition of previous Pop Surrealist exhibitions at the Gallery Magda Danysz, Ray Caesar and Sas Christian are shown together, along side the photographer and videoist Erwin Olaf . Just like other art work from the movement Pop Surrealism, "Nostalgia" confronts the spectator with a view of the world from a curious, slightly 'wacky' perspective and with a fresh sense of humour.
"Everything stands still even before the music has begun to play" wrote Jonathan Turner about the work of Erwin Olaf. The strange discrepancies in the compositions of Ray Caesar give a similar impression, derived from a vagueness from the heart. Even more confusing are the bizzare faces of Christian which will not cease to haunt even the hardiest of spectators. Painted in oil, created digitally or photographed, these scenes exploit the duality of our world.
Where Ray Caesar, Sas Christian and Erwin Olaf wanted initially to depict a world full of depravity, the false simplicity of the images has instead rendered their work extremely nostalgic. An intense look, a scene passed, a surrealist situation: all of it leads us further into their mystic and bizarre world; one which penetrates the boundaries between reality and dreams.
