It is Forbidden to Pinch the Artist
The exhibition It is Forbidden to Pinch the Artist was conceived and selected by
Zlatan Dumanić as a compilation of his performances between 2002 and 2006...
Dumanić is a natural born performer. A scene and/or any space which he designates as
such, are his natural habitat. He is a modern version of that peculiar personality
comprising notorious Split characters. Starting with a cavalier and a wooer of
priapic persistence, to a bon-vivant and a dandy, down to an anarchist, an
exhibitionist and a buffoon, Dumanić profoundly embodies the millennium memory of
his city within an independent and open minded individual.
And he never presents it
in extremes and excesses, but always within civilized measures of urban code, since
- let us remind ourselves on his words- the performance is nothing but art of
conduct. This exuberant psychological controversy gets its vertical through strongly
expressed ethos that is never caused externally, but is initiated solely by an
interior impulse, which eventually led to equation of Dumanić's existence with his
art vocation. On the scene, he is accompanied by a parade of his kids, girlfriends,
wives and mistresses; a congregation of all those who make up a warm core of his
Mediterranean ductus and a firm standing ground wherefrom he can generate unlimited
freedom of his observations.
